William Zabka (2020)

William Michael "Billy" Zabka (born October 20, 1965 in New York City ) is an American actor . He was best known for his role as an opponent of Ralph Macchio in Karate Kid and as an actor in the television series The Equalizer .

Life

William Zabka's career began as a performer in commercials. Through his agent, he got an audition for the role of Johnny Lawrence in the movie Karate Kid . Although he didn't know karate at the time , he got the role. He then trained with Pat Johnson to learn the basic techniques. He was nominated for the Young Artist Award for his portrayal , but lost to Anthony Michael Hall in This is only allowed as an adult .

In the 1980s, he mostly played roles in comedies that matched the stereotype of the teenage thug he embodied in The Karate Kid : Do it again, Dad , Help the Americans come, and As a boy, she's awesome . From 1985 to 1989 he also played a leading role in the television series The Equalizer .

In the 1990s he returned to the martial arts genre for the role of Ruben in Shootfighter and the sequel Shootfighter 2 . Otherwise he played many roles in B-movies such as Python , Power Man and Alien Interceptors . In 2004 he was nominated for an Oscar together with Bobby Garabedian as producer of the short film Most .

In 2007 he satirized his role as Johnny Lawrence for the music video for Sweep the Leg of the No More Kings .

In 2013 he had a guest appearance in episode 22 of the 8th season of the series How I Met Your Mother , further appearances followed in episode 4 ("The Broken Code"), episode 5 ("The Poker Game"), episode 10 ("Mom and Dad "), episode 20 (" Daisy "), episode 21 (" Gary Blauman ") and episode 22 (" The End of the Aisle ") of the 9th season.

In 2018 he took over the role of Johnny Lawrence from the first Karate Kid film in the series Cobra Kai .

Others

Rumor has it that he would have a black belt in karate today. However, he denied this in an interview and stated that he owned a green belt. For his roles in various martial arts films, he trained black belt techniques.
