A dog saves the summer (alternatively: The dog who saved the summer ; original title: The Dog Who Saved Summer ) is an American family film from 2015 .

Zeus, the dog of the Bannister family, ruins a party organized by Belinda Bannister and thereby puts her event service in financial difficulties. The family then decides to enroll Zeus in a dog school at the local mall. George Bannister enrolls Zeus and himself in a course with the dog trainer Vernon and his dog Apollo. Meanwhile, Belinda manages to take over the organization of the dog school's summer party, during which the course participants' final exam is to take place.
At the same time, three petty criminals, Ted, Fred and Chewey, learn about a giant diamond that is kept at a jeweler in the same mall. A client promises them three million dollars each time they get him the diamond, and so they decide to break into the jeweler's vault.
Meanwhile, Zeus and George have problems in the dog school, especially since Zeus is unable to complete the required tasks. Thereupon he is treated as an outsider by the other dogs, especially Apollo. Zeus eventually meets Mr. Lee, the mall caretaker. He promises to train him up to the final exam. Using initially unconventional methods, Mr. Lee succeeds in teaching Zeus the required exercises.
On the day of the summer festival and with it the final exam of the dog school, Ted, Fred and Chewey break into the jeweler's vault. They are caught by Mr. Lee, who is then handcuffed and locked in a basement room. Zeus, who is supposed to be doing the last exercise of the exam against Apollo, notices Mr. Lee's absence. Together with Apollo, he manages to free the caretaker and catch the gangsters in the act. The thieves are eventually led away by the police and Zeus takes first place in the final exam.

A dog saves the summer is the sixth part of the A dog saves… film series. Previously, the films A dog saves Christmas (2009), A dog saves Christmas holidays (2010), A dog saves Halloween (2011), A dog saves Christmas holidays (2012) and A dog saves Easter (2014).
Dean Cain , who was best known internationally for his role as Clark Kent in the television series Superman - The Adventures of Lois & Clark , plays the role of gangster Ted as in all five previous films. Also for the sixth time in the film series are Elisa Donovan (Belinda Bannister, known from Clueless - What Else! ), Mindy Sterling (Annie, known from the Austin Powers film series) and Joey Diaz (Stewey). Gary Valentine , best known for the sitcom King of Queens , has played the role of George Bannister for the fifth time, as it did not appear in the part A Dog Saves Easter . Zeus is dubbed for the second time by Mario Lopez in the English-language original .

The editorial staff of the film magazine Cinema describes a dog saves the summer as "family joke without a whistle". On the Rotten Tomatoes website , the film got a 43% rating based on nine reviews.
