Welcome to the South (Original title: Benvenuti al Sud ) is an Italian comedy film from 2010 by Luca Miniero . It is a remake of the French film Willkommen bei den Sch'tis , which is based on the original. In 2012 the sequel Willkommen im Norden ( Italian Benvenuti al Nord ) appeared.

Alberto Colombo works for the post office and dreams of being transferred to Milan with his wife Silvia . He even tries to gain advantages by pretending to be a disabled person in a wheelchair, but this is discovered. Instead of Milan, Alberto was transferred to Castellabate in the south of Italy for two years to become head of the local post office. The expectations are shaped by clichés: the Camorra , high crime rate, laziness, strange food, incomprehensible language .
At the new location Alberto is received by the postal worker Mattia and he spends the first night with him and his dominant mother. Getting started at the post office is not easy for him. He moves into the official apartment, for which the new colleagues have collected some pieces of furniture. Mattia is in love with his colleague Maria, but because of his strict mother, he lacks the courage to take serious care of Maria. Over time, Alberto gets used to the new environment and makes friends with his colleagues. But he tells his wife, who has stayed in the north, how terrible everything is in the south, because she wants to hear this. When she comes to visit him, his colleagues and the villagers stage a reception below the village with machine guns, garbage lying around, and begging children in order to meet their expectations.
When this story of lies is exposed, Silvia wants to part with him. Alberto and Mattia agree to sort out their respective problems, Mattia with his mother and Maria, Alberto with his wife. At an evening dance party, at which Mattia proposes marriage to his colleague Maria and the planned fireworks go up uncontrollably, everything dissolves in favor.
When Alberto is transferred to the north after two years, there is a tearful farewell.

The reviews of the film were mixed. The film has mostly been described as a boring remake.
