The Städtische Willy-Brandt-Gesamtschule München (WBG) in Munich 's Harthof district, originally founded as the Integrated Comprehensive School Munich-North , is one of the last two comprehensive schools in the state of Bavaria , alongside the Hollfeld State Comprehensive School in Upper Franconia . Otherwise, the school- independent orientation level Munich-Neuperlach is comparable . The school is anchored in the Bavarian Education Act as a "special kind of school". The Willy Brandt Comprehensive School in Munich takes part in the UNESCO school project and has been an "Recognized UNESCO Project School" since November 13, 2009.

history

After the school committee and in February 1970 the city council had approved the application of the SPD city council group to establish an integrated comprehensive school in Munich on July 23, 1969, the latter approved the planning concept for the school trial on March 11, 1970. In March 1970, the establishment of the school trial was approved by the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture , so that at the beginning of the school year on September 10, 1970, the Integrated Comprehensive School Munich-North with the training of the 5th grade in the school building of the secondary school at Hugo-Wolf -Straße was able to start teaching. The school building on Freudstrasse, estimated at 36 million D-Marks , was initially occupied on the upper floor in 1973 and finally moved into in 1974. On January 1, 1975 the swimming pool was completed.

The first pupils with an upper level entrance qualification entered the 11th grade of the grammar school upper level in 1976, which was set up at the Willi-Graf-Gymnasium as a branch in the house of the comprehensive school. German was taught in two course levels in the 7th and 8th grades, and in English since 1978 in the 7th grade as well. According to the framework agreement of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs for the mutual recognition of qualifications at integrated comprehensive schools in May 1982, since 1983 the 7th and 8th grade had to be taught in three levels in the differentiated subjects.

Between 1984 and 1986 the district of the surrounding primary schools was expanded. After the Bavarian Ministry of Culture declared the trial phase to be completed in April 1992, the school was given its current name, named after the former German Chancellor Willy Brandt . In 1994 the school was anchored in the Bavarian Education Act as a “special school” .

As part of the modernization of the schools in Munich, the city had an evaluation whether the Willy-Brandt-Gesamtschule will be modernized or whether it will have to give way to a new building. A new school building is to be built at Freudstrasse 15, which will be shared by the FOS Nord technical college , which is currently still located on the Freiham educational campus, and the Willy Brandt comprehensive school. The existing school building of the Willy Brandt Comprehensive School will be completely demolished and replaced by the new building. The new school building should be ready at the beginning of the school year 2024/2025.

particularities

School profile

In grades 5 to 10, the three conventional school careers middle school , secondary school and high school are combined, with grades 5 to 7 serving as orientation. From the 6th grade onwards, students attend courses in the subjects of English and mathematics, which are differentiated according to performance, whereby an upward and downward movement is possible depending on performance. From the 7th grade onwards, there is a differentiation in the subjects German, English and mathematics into three levels and the students decide between the second foreign language French and a combination of practical and job-related subjects. In the 8th grade, the students are grouped into core groups according to their performance-related choice of school career. At the same time, the final differentiation and the decision on whether to participate in the secondary school, secondary school or grammar school branch are made. The grammar school education from the 11th grade takes place in the Willi-Graf-Gymnasium.
