Willy Lohmann (politician)

Willy Lohmann (born August 1, 1883 in Dohndorf , today in Köthen (Anhalt) ; † September 21, 1945 at Lutherstadt Wittenberg ) was a Central German politician and official in the school administration.

Life

Born the son of a farmer, Lohmann first worked as a primary school teacher in order to be able to finance a university course. He studied French, philosophy, psychology, German and physical exercises at the Universities of Tübingen and Brussels . During the First World War Willy Lohmann was employed as an interpreter , but returned to school. First he was in a Bernburg middle school , from 1918 in a Köthen high school . From 1924 Lohmann was director of studies of the teachers' seminar attached to the secondary school.

Willy Lohmann was also politically active at this time. In the Anhalt state parliament , he initially sat for the German Democratic Party (DDP) , later for the German State Party (DStP) .

In July 1932 Lohmann was dismissed from service by the National Socialists as the first higher civil servant in Germany and transferred to Dessau as a punishment. There he headed a girls' middle school and was henceforth no longer allowed to exercise honorary posts or political functions.

After the end of the Second World War in 1945, he was first appointed city school councilor in Dessau, where he was given responsibility for all of the city's educational institutions. A little later, Willy Lohmann was appointed Vice President of the newly formed provincial administration. In this position he made particular contributions to teacher training and the reopening of the University of Halle .

On the morning of September 21, 1945, Lohmann died on a business trip to Berlin in a car accident near Lutherstadt Wittenberg.

Appreciation

The name Willy Lohmann can still be found frequently in Central Germany today. Mainly streets and schools in Saxony-Anhalt were dedicated to the politician. B. in Dessau, Halle (Saale) , Köthen (since 1945) and Wittenberg.
