Willy Real

Willy Real (born October 25, 1911 in Osternienburg , † April 23, 2004 in Bonn ) was a German historian . Real was professor of history and history didactics at the University of Cologne .

Life

He was born on October 25, 1911 in Osternienburg as the son of the construction engineer Wilhelm Real. After graduating from high school in March 1930 in Koethen , he studied history, German and philosophy at the universities of Halle , Münster and Cologne . A study on the German constitutional question at the exit of Napoleonic rule until the beginning of the Congress of Vienna received his doctorate in 1935, at the University of Muenster in Hermann Wätjen Dr. phil. From 1936 he worked at the Hindenburg School in Düsseldorf . From 1945 to 1971 he taught German and history at the grammar school in Waldbröl , then at the Aloisiuskolleg in Bad Godesberg . In 1977 he was retired.

After his habilitation in 1970 at the PH Rhineland , Bonn department, from 1971 he was scientific advisor and professor at the PH Rhineland, Cologne department, and since 1980 at the University of Cologne. He dedicated his book Die Revolution in Baden 1848/49 (1983) to the memory of his "honored teacher Hans Herzfeld ".

From 1939 he was married. The marriage had three children: Heinz Jürgen, Michael Alexander and Monika Christiane. His son Heinz Jürgen also became a historian: he did his doctorate under Johannes Spörl and later worked at the Koblenz Federal Archives .
