Willy Schnyder

Willy U. Schnyder (born February 15, 1958 in Unterseen in the Bernese Oberland) is a Swiss composer and pianist.

Life

Willy U. Schnyder was trained as a primary school teacher at the Spiez seminar . In addition to piano, he also studied organ and saxophone. In 1983 he graduated with a diploma (piano and composition) from the Swiss Jazz School in Bern with Fritz Pauer .

At the end of the 1970s, she performed as an amateur with the Hunger Band (Daniel Mosimann, Peter Steiner, Stufi Hasler) and the Klimperkiste (Marc Jundt and Schabi Berger).

In the 1980s he toured with various bands:

  • Latin band "Quinto" (1982)
  • "Zampanoo's Varieté" (1983/84)
  • Vera Kaa (CD production 1985 "from Brecht to Blues")
  • "Marc Jundt's Kalabule Band" (from 1985; 3 LP and CD productions, including with trumpeter Kenny Wheeler ),
  • Leader of the "JazzHorchEster" (2 CD productions: "Jazz is also composed!", 1998 and "You're not the first", 2001)
  • Leader of the Willy Schnyder Trio with Samuel Joss on bass and Tinu Frutiger (ex Patent Ochsner ) on drums.

Schnyder plays and played u. a. with Kenny Wheeler , Clark Terry , John Allred , Vinz Vonlanthen , Sam Joss, Wegen Wüthrich , Marc Jundt, Stefan Rigert, Tinu Frutiger, Michel Poffet , David Elias , Myria Poffet, Anna Freivogel, Wolfgang Pemberger, Thomas Leu, Agnes Hunger.

As a founding member and first president of the "Jazz Fründe Interlaken", Schnyder brought internationally known cracks to the Bernese Oberland (including Dollar Brand , Tom Harrell , Joanne Brackeen , Vienna Art Orchestra , Joe Haider , Isla Eckinger , Donat Fisch , Billy Brooks , Billy Hart , George Robert , Peter Schärli and others).

Willy Schnyder has been active as a composer and pianist in the field of music theater and music cabaret since the 1990s. He participated in several projects with director Mathias Hagi: "öppis isch geng", (1996) "beaCH boys" (1999) and in music cabaret programs with the singer Anna Freivogel: "Aunt Paula and Mr. Schnyder ignite their unparalleled success program" ( 2005); “ChicOhr - Garden Splendor” (2007); “A car ride into the blue” with the trumpeter Wolfgang Pemberger (2002).

Schnyder was a composer for the Ballenberg open-air theater in Brienz: “The cheese dairy in the vehicle joy” (2000); Children's opera “flügulahm”, world premiere (Pfrundschüür Köniz, 2005); Arrangements and management of the PHBern choir projects, “souvenirs inoubliables” (2009), “Dada - the roaring twenties” (2011). Willy Schnyder is currently (2013) on the road with “chantemoiselle” and appears with the stage play “EggiMa - RundiFrou - a playful concert to texts by Ernst Eggimann ”. Schnyder also performs regularly with the saxophonist Weg Wüthrich with the duo "Fette Duette".

Teaching activities

From 1985 Schnyder worked as a jazz piano teacher at various music schools: Köniz, Oberland Ost, Region Thun. Since 2002 he has been teaching piano at the University of Education in Bern .
