Willy Steinmetz

Willy Steinmetz (born August 20, 1900 in Braunschweig ; † December 20, 1969 there ) was a German engineer , entrepreneur and politician ( DP , CDU ).

Life

After attending elementary school, participating in World War I in 1918 and graduating from secondary school in 1919, Steinmetz began studying mechanical engineering at the Braunschweig Technical University , which he completed in 1926 with the examination as a graduate engineer. He then worked as an engineer in the field of construction and planning at MIAG Mühlenbau und Industrie AG in Braunschweig. At the same time he studied economics in Frankfurt am Main , which he in 1930 with the graduation to the Dr. rer. pole. completed. From 1934 to 1944 he worked for MIAG mainly abroad. Since May 1, 1937, he was a member of the NSDAP ( membership number4,235,942). He also worked on a voluntary basis as an SA Rottenführer.

Steinmetz joined MIAG in 1944, became managing director of MIAG-Betriebs-GmbH in Braunschweig in 1948 and was director of MIAG Mühlenbau und Industrie GmbH in Hanover from 1952 to 1960 . He also acted as Vice President of the Braunschweig Chamber of Commerce and Industry and as a board member in various associations.

Steinmetz joined the DP after 1945, was chairman of the DP district association in Braunschweig and was elected to the state board of the DP Lower Saxony . In addition, he was a member of the DP Federal Committee, here Chairman of the Federal Committee for SME Issues and Deputy Chairman of the Federal Committee for Economic Issues. In 1960 he switched to the CDU.

Steinmetz had been a councilor for the city of Braunschweig since 1952. From 1955 until his resignation on October 17, 1957, he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1957 to 1969. Initially elected for the DP, he had been a non-attached MP since July 1, 1960 and then a member of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group from September 20, 1960 until he left parliament . In the third and fourth electoral terms (1957-1965) he was drafted into the Bundestag via the Lower Saxony state list. In the fifth electoral term he represented the constituency of Göttingen in parliament .

Steinmetz officiated as mayor (deputy mayor) of the city of Braunschweig in the 1950s.
