Willy Zügel (born June 22, 1876 in Munich , † May 4, 1950 in Wolkenhof / Murrhardt ) was a German animal sculptor .

Willy Zügel, first born son of the animal painter Heinrich von Zügel , initially studied painting in his father's class at the Munich Academy , but turned to sculpture from 1903 onwards. Stay in Paris 1906, member of the Munich Secession since 1910 . He lived alternately in Munich and Murrhardt .

Zügel became known for his small sculptures on animals, with which he is represented in numerous galleries such as the National Gallery in Berlin , the Kunsthalle Bremen or the Münchner Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus as well as the art collection of the city of Murrhardt . He made models for the Philipp Rosenthal porcelain factory 1911–1926, the Nymphenburg porcelain factory 1911–1913, the Meißen porcelain factory and, since 1935, for the porcelain factory in Munich-Allach , which opened up a wide audience to him. Zügel also created numerous monuments on behalf of the public, including the memorial to the fallen from World War I in Murrhardt and the memorial to Theodor Christomannos .
