Wilson Jamall Chandler (born May 10, 1987 in Benton Harbor , Michigan ) is an American basketball player . The 2.03 meter tall forward was selected 23rd in the 2007 NBA draft by the New York Knicks , where he played until 2011. He is currently under contract with the Brooklyn Nets .
Career
High school
Wilson Chandler played at Benton Harbor High School in Michigan and got his first experience as a basketball player there. In his third season as a junior , Chandler already had a remarkable 22.4 points per game and 12.0 rebounds per encounter. In his senior year at Benton Harbor High, he shot his stats up to 24 PpS, 12.0 RpS, and 5.0 ApS. His team remained undefeated in all games and only lost in the final of the Michigan State Championship. In 2005 he was named "Mr Basketball of Michigan".
college
Chandler then moved to DePaul University and played there with his team in the Big East Conference of the NCAA . In his first year as a so-called freshman , Wilson Chandler scored 10.6 points per game round and had a strong 7.2 rebounds per game. He has been named Rookie of the Week for the Big East Conference several times . The sophomore season was a very successful one for Chandler and he managed to increase his stats in almost all categories. With 14.7 RpS, 6.9 RpS and 1.4 blocks per encounter, he was one of the top performers in his team. However, he left DePaul and then signed up for the 2007 NBA draft .
NBA
On the night of the draft trial, Chandler was drawn in 23rd place by the New York Knicks , who were being trained by Isiah Thomas at the time .
In the 2007/08 season, his first in the NBA, the 2.03 meter tall forward failed to prevail in the "Knickerbokers" and only played 35 of a possible 82 appearances. However, he surprised in these games and delivered a strong 7.3 points per game.
Under the Knicks' new head coach, Mike D'Antoni , Chandler finally made his breakthrough in the NBA and even became a starting player in the position of small forward. In 70 of 82 games he was in the starting line-up and thanked those responsible for their trust with 14.4 RpS and 5.4 RpS. The Knicks did not reach the playoffs despite Chandler's strong performance.
In 2009/10 Chandler had to struggle with minor injury concerns and missed 17 games, which did not prevent him from increasing his points yield to 15.3 pps. Another milestone he achieved in the game against the Sacramento Kings , in which the forward scored 35 points: his personal best point scoring in an encounter.
2010/11 brought a team change for Chandler. In a multiplayer swap, the American, born in 1987, was given to the Denver Nuggets in exchange (including with his team members Raymond Felton , Danilo Gallinari and others) for the superstar Carmelo Anthony . In the main round of the season, however, nothing changed in his high-altitude flight: Chandler continued to score double digits and was an indispensable factor for Denver on the offensive. With the Nuggets he reached the NBA playoffs for the first time, but the team from Colorado was eliminated from the Oklahoma City Thunder with 1: 4 wins.
China
Due to the lockout (German: lockout) in the NBA, the contractless Chandler moved to China in 2011 to the Zhejiang Guangsha . He signed a one-year contract. After Guangsha was eliminated from the playoffs, he returned to the Denver Nuggets.
Return to the NBA
Chandler played for the Nuggets for over six years, where he was an integral part of the rotation, averaging over 13 points and 5 rebounds. In the summer of 2018, Chandler joined the Philadelphia 76ers , and a few months later he was transferred to the Los Angeles Clippers as part of a transfer that brought Tobias Harris to the Sixers .
In July 2019, he moved to the Brooklyn Nets . At the end of August 2019, Chandler was suspended from the NBA for 25 games for violating the league's doping rules . Traces of the prohibited growth hormone ipamorelin had been found in a doping sample he had given.
