For its commitment in the offshore sector, the shipping company Norden-Frisia planned a suitable transport vehicle for the fast transport of workers and cargo under high-sea conditions. The shipping company then ordered a catamaran from the Diedrich shipyard in Oldersum , in which it has a 25 percent stake. The keel of the ship was laid on June 4, 2008 and delivery on June 26, 2009.

The ship is the first German offshore catamaran. The bow was specially designed for mooring on offshore wind turbines. There is space for up to 25 people below deck. At the stern, the ship has a large loading deck that can accommodate loads of up to 10 tons . The on-board crane can lift up to 1.5 tons. As an occupying the Wind Force 1 part of the crew was the catamaran Cat No. 1 , which was put into service for Heligoland transport in 1999 and sold by the shipping company in December 2006. In May 2013, her sister ship, the Wind Force II , was put into service.
