The Tafila wind farm was built in 2015 in Jordan and is located about 180 km south of the capital Amman in the at-Tafila governorate . It consists of 38 wind turbines of the type Vestas V112-3MW and has a rated output of 117 megawatts . The annual standard work capacity is around 400  GWh , which means that the wind farm provides around 3% of the Jordanian electricity supply. The electricity production costs of the wind park are in accordance with the established specially for the wind farm operating consortium JWPC up to 25% lower than those of competing thermal power plants . In December 2015, the wind farm was officially put into operation by the Jordanian King Abdullah II .

Tafila is the first large wind farm in Jordan, with a number of other wind farms to follow. One of the goals is to lower the import dependency on fossil fuels by switching to domestic renewable energies and in this way lower the costs of energy supply.
