Windsor Davies (born August 28, 1930 in Canning Town , London - † January 17, 2019 ) was a Welsh actor and singer .
biography
Davies, son of Welsh parents, worked as a teacher before taking up acting in 1961. He spent his time partly in France and partly in England and was married to Eluned Lynne Evans since 1957. The couple have five children. The casting Directorin Jane Davies is his eldest daughter.
Windsor Davies was best known for his roles in the comedy series It Ain't Half Hot Mum (1974) and Never the Twain (1981) as well as in the science fiction series Terrahawks (1983).
With Don Estelle , his acting partner from It Ain't Half Hot Mum , Davies recorded several singles and two albums in the 1970s . The common song Whispering Grass rose to number 1 in the English charts in May 1975 . In October of that year a second, but small hit followed with Paper Doll at number 41. The album Sing Lofty reached number 10 in January 1976 in the United Kingdom.
