Winfried Zehetmeier

Winfried Zehetmeier (* the thirtieth May 1933 in Munich , † 26. June 2019 ) was a Bavarian local politicians of the CSU , educator and author.

Profession and Politics

After studying classical philology and German at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , he worked in higher education from 1957 to 1978, most recently as senior director of the Otto von Taube grammar school . From 1966 to 1996 he was a member of the Munich City Council and from 1970 to 1978 parliamentary group chairman. In 1972 Zehetmeier ran for Mayor of Munich, but lost significantly to the SPD politician Georg Kronawitter . From 1978 to 1990 Zehetmeier was second mayor of the state capital Munich. From 1990 Zehetmeier was a freelance artist. He was a member of the Catholic Bavarian Student Union Rhaetia .

Winfried Zehetmeier, who died in June 2019 at the age of 86, was honored with a city burial of honor at the Waldfriedhof in Munich .

Cultural commitment and awards

As chairman of the theater community in Munich , he was committed to cultural life in Munich until November 2006. When the Ernst Hoferichter Prize of the City of Munich was awarded to the actor Jörg Hube , the radio journalist Kurt Seeberger and the working-class writer August Kühn in 1982 , Zehetmeier refused to hand over the award personally in protest against Kühn's left-wing political convictions. In 2004 there was at least a joint award ceremony with Jörg Hube, when Zehetmeier, together with him, Jutta Makowsky and the Couplet-AG, received the prestigious Bavarian Poet Taler from the Munich tower writers for his services to Bavarian culture . In 1993 he received the Golden Citizen Medal of the City of Munich . He has also found recognition as a painter.
