Winnie Holzman

Winnie Holzman (* 1954 in New York City ) is an American screenwriter , television producer and actress . She became known as the writer and producer of the American television series Welcome to Life . She was nominated for an Emmy in 1995 for the script for the pilot of this series .

Life

Holzman studied English and creative writing at Princeton University . She graduated from New York University in 1984 with a Masters in Musical Theater Writing . Her teachers at New York University included Stephen Sondheim , Harold Prince , Arthur Laurents , Betty Comden , Adolph Green and Leonard Bernstein .

In 2003, Winnie Holzman wrote the screenplay for the Broadway - Musical Wicked - The Witches of Oz by Stephen Schwartz . For this she won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Book of a Musical and was nominated for the Tony Award in the category Best Author of a Musical .

As an actress, Holzman plays small supporting roles in various television series. Also, she often makes cameos in her own productions.

Winnie Holzman is married to actor Paul Dooley , with whom she has a daughter.
