Vitaly Nikolayevich Novopashin ( Kazakh Виталий Николаевич Новопашин ; born September 28, 1978 in Ust-Kamenogorsk , Kazakh SSR ) is a former Kazakh ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with HK Spartak Moscow from the Continental Hockey League .
Career
Vitaly Novopashin began his career as an ice hockey player in his Kazakh homeland in the junior division of Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Vysschaya League , the second Russian division, in the 1998/99 season . The defender then moved to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod , for which he spent the following three years in the Russian Super League . After relegation, he left the club and joined Salawat Yulayev Ufa , for which he was only on the ice for one season, as then for Metallurg Novokuznetsk . In the summer of 2004, the Kazakh was committed by his ex-club Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, who in the meantime had been relegated back to the Wysschaya League immediately after being promoted again in 2004. With Torpedo, the former national player achieved promotion to the Superleague as a second division champion in the 2006/07 season. Since the 2008/09 season he played with his team in the newly founded Continental Hockey League . In 2010 he moved to league rival Barys Astana and completed over 150 KHL games for him by 2013, where he acted as assistant captain for two seasons.
Since May 2013 he has been under contract with Atlant Moskovskaya Oblast . Due to financial problems, Atlant withdrew from the game operation after the 2014/15 season and Novopashin moved together with some other players of the club to HK Spartak Moscow , which took over Atlants starting place. Nowopashin was used in some preparation games, but not licensed for the KHL.
International
For Kazakhstan , Nowopashin took part in the Junior B World Championship in 1997 and the Junior A World Championship in 1998 . In the men's division, he played at the B World Championships in 1999 and 2000 and, after changing over to the current division system, the World Championships in Division I in 2001 , 2002 , 2011 and 2013 . He was also in Kazakhstan's squad at the top division World Championships in 2005 and 2012 .
