Witten-Mitte downtown
Downtown is a district of Witten-Mitte . In the official district of the city of Witten , the district is referred to as the "statistical district" . On December 31, 2015, it had a total of 8,745 inhabitants.
The boundaries of the district determined by the Office for Statistics , Urban Development and Internet Service of the City of Witten encompass the core area of Witten-Mitte. The main train station and the town hall are located within this district . Two of the city's three grammar schools , the Ruhr and Schiller grammar schools , are just as within the specified limits as the Johanniskirche .
The Bahnhofstrasse as a main shopping street of the city, together with the City Gallery , the streets Ruhrstraße , main street , and the Johannisviertel the retail center Witten. According to a current retail report commissioned by the city of Witten, the settlement of retail stores, which offer so-called center-relevant items, will only be permitted in the main street in exceptional cases in the future. The area that will then be relevant to the center for retail will be limited to Bahnhofstrasse and Ruhrstrasse , Johannisviertel , Berliner Platz / Berliner Strasse (as a connection between the main train station and Bahnhofstrasse ) and a few side streets.
Retail and four- to five-storey buildings shape the appearance of the district. Although the Mitte district with the Hohenstein and Witten City Park has an extensive local recreation area and small parks such as the sister park or various smaller green corridors loosen up the cityscape , there is only one noteworthy green space within the narrow inner city district, namely the one between the inner city districts and Oberdorf-Helenenberg divided Lutherpark .
