Wittenhorst-Sonsfeld
Wittenhorst-Sonsfeld , originally Wittenhorst , is the name of a Klevian baronial noble family , some of whose branches have survived to the present day .
history
The Wittenhorst family, named after their ancestral estate , the Lordship of Sonsfeld, was first mentioned in a document with Alradus de Wisenhurst et frater eius Winemarus on October 18, 1145. The secure and continuous line of the family begins with the inheritance of the Duchy of Kleve Gerhard de Witenhorst, which was mentioned in a document in 1200. The brothers Hermann von Wittenhorst auf Sonsfeld, Kurbrandenburg court and government councilor, Johann von Wittenhorst auf Drongeln and Wilhelm Vincenz von Wittenhorst auf Horst, were raised to the imperial baron status in Vienna on April 15, 1651 .
The von Wittenhorst-Sonsfeld family played an important role in the reign of Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia .
