Sir Wiwa Korowi , GCMG (born July 7, 1948 in Komali , Southern Highlands Province , Papua New Guinea ) is a Papua New Guinean politician .

biography

Korowi began his political career as a member of the National Alliance Party with his election to the House of Assembly .

On November 11, 1991, he was elected by Parliament to succeed the resigned Sir Serei Eri as the new Governor General and took over the office from the incumbent Governor General and Speaker of Parliament Dennis Young on November 18, 1991. After taking office, he was made Knight by Queen Elizabeth II Appointed Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George . After a regular six-year term, he handed over to Silas Atopare on November 20, 1997 .
