Ignatius Kilage

Sir Ignatius Kilage GCMG ( 1941 - December 31, 1989 ) was a Papua New Guinean politician .

biography

In the course of his political career he became the country's ombudsman and succeeded Sir Kingsford Dibela as Governor General of Papua New Guinea on March 1, 1989 . After taking office, he was named Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George by Queen Elizabeth II .

On December 31, 1989, he died suddenly and unexpectedly in his office during the New Year celebrations. After his death in 1991 the " Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium " was named after him.

Kilage was also a well-known writer in Papua New Guinea. His better-known books include:

  • "My Mother Calls Me Yaltep", Melbourne 1980
  • "The Adventures of Yomba The Trickster", Melbourne 1994 ( posthumous ).
