Vladimir Alexandrovich Serov (also: Vladimir Aleksandrovich Serov ; Russian Владимир Александрович Серов ; born July 8 jul. / 21st July  1910 greg. In Emmaus , now Tver Oblast ; † 19th January 1968 in Moscow ) was a Soviet painter , graphic artist and Illustrator .

Life

Serov studied at the Leningrad Repin -Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (LISchSA) (until 1918 Imperial Academy of Arts , then VKhUTEMAS , VKhUTEIN ) with completion in 1931, followed by postgraduate study at Isaak Brodsky (until 1933). Then he taught at LISchSA.

During the German-Soviet war , Serov stayed in blocked Leningrad and, as president of the Leningrad Artists' Association, took part in the work of the artist group Bojewoi Karandasch (combative pencil) .

In 1942 Serov joined the CPSU . In 1954 Serov became a full member of the USSR Academy of Arts, founded in Moscow in 1947 . In 1958 he became a member of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR and in 1961 a member of the Central Revision Commission of the CPSU. In 1962 he became president of the Academy of Arts of the USSR.

From 1963 to 1968 Serow was a corresponding member of the German Academy of the Arts in Berlin (East) .
