Vladimir Igorewitsch Malachow ( Russian Владимир Игоревич Малахов ; born August 30, 1968 in Sverdlovsk , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player .

Career

During his Soviet period he played for HK CSKA Moscow and HK Spartak Moscow . In the 1989 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the tenth round in 191st place by the New York Islanders . In 1992 he moved to the Islanders in the National Hockey League after the collapse of the Soviet Union . Other stations in his career in the NHL were the Montreal Canadiens , New Jersey Devils , with whom he won the Stanley Cup in the 1999/00 season , New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers . After the lockout - 2004/05 had completely exposed, he returned to the 2005/06 season with the New Jersey Devils back. After Malachow stayed away from Devils training without excuse during the season and rumors of his resignation emerged, which later turned out to be the clarification of personal problems and he had become too expensive for the team, they transferred the rights to his person for Alexander Koroljuk to the San Jose Sharks . Due to knee problems, Malachow had announced the end of his career a few days earlier.

On October 30, 1988 he was appointed to the Soviet national ice hockey team. After the collapse of the Soviet Union , he was first a member of the United Team and then the Russian national ice hockey team . His international career was crowned with a gold medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics and a bronze medal in 2002 . In 1990 he was inducted into the " Russian Hockey Hall of Fame ".
