Philipp Friedrich Böddecker (baptized August 5, 1607 in Hagenau ( Alsace ); † October 8, 1683 in Stuttgart ) was a German composer and organist at the collegiate church in Stuttgart .

Life

His father, who came from Goslar , was appointed to the collegiate church in Stuttgart in 1614. Philipp Friedrich also became a musician. He was probably a student of his father and the monastery organist Johann Ulrich Steigleder .

In 1626 Philipp Friedrich became organist and singing teacher in Buchsweiler , in 1629 bassoonist and organist at the Landgräflichen Hof in Darmstadt . His next job led to the service of the margravial Baden court orchestra in Durlach , from where he was appointed to the Barfüßerkirche in Frankfurt am Main in 1638 . In 1642 he became organist at Strasbourg Cathedral , in 1648 also university organist and music director in Strasbourg .

In 1652 he took up the post of monastery organist in Stuttgart. His “Sacra Partitura”, dedicated to the Duchess Sybilla, was supposed to prepare his appointment as court conductor. However, this post was given to Samuel Capricornus , with whom there was a dispute that lasted for years, in which the two composers accused each other of errors in their works. In addition to the “Sacra Partitura” collection with sacred works for soprano and bc, a violin sonata and a bassoon sonata, the “Melos irenicum”, an 18-part work for a celebration of the Peace of Westphalia, has been preserved. There is only one occasional composition left from his time in Stuttgart, a funeral song on the occasion of the death of the daughter of a Württemberg official.
