Vladimir Zeldin ( Russian Владимир Михайлович Зельдин * January 28 . Jul / 10. February  1915 greg. In Kozlov, today Michurinsk , Tambov Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 31 October 2016 in Moscow ) was a Russian actor. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living people 's artist in the USSR and the longest-serving actor in Russian history. From 2010 until his death in 2016, he was the oldest active actor in the world. He worked at the Russian Army Theater since 1945 .

Life

Seldin was born the son of a trombonist and a teacher. In 1920 the family moved to Tver during the civil war and finally to Moscow in 1924 . After graduating from high school there, Seldin worked as a locksmith's apprentice and attended an acting course at the Mossoviet Theater . In 1945 he began working at the theater of the Soviet Army , where he was active until his death. Among other things, he played the leading role there for a long time in the production of Lope de Vegas ' The Dance Master. Seldin also played in the film adaptation of this piece. In 2005, on Seldin's 90th birthday , Juli Gusman staged the musical The Man of La Mancha , in which Seldin appears on stage as Don Quixote.

As a film actor, he achieved national fame after his first role in Ivan Pyrev's comedy "They Met In Moscow".

On February 10, 2015, Seldin celebrated his 100th birthday and, as on his previous anniversaries, was on stage himself. It was no different on his 101st birthday in February 2016, when Seldin played the main role in the play “Dances with the Teacher”.

Seldin made his last public appearance on September 10, 2016. He took part in the 869th anniversary of the city of Moscow on Red Square .

On October 26, 2016, Seldin was admitted to the Moscow Sklifosovsky Clinic as an emergency due to kidney failure . He died there on October 31, 2016 at 9 a.m. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to the actor's family. Vladimir Mikhailovich Seldin was buried on November 3, 2016 at the Novodevichy Cemetery at 5-33-10.

On November 4, 2019 , a monument was erected for Vladimir Seldin in his native city, which is now called Michurinsk .

Vladimir Seldin was married to Ivetta Yevgenyevna Kapralova for the third time in 1964. The marriage has remained childless. Until recently, the Seldin couple lived in a 28 square meter condominium. Seldin also had a small dacha in a forest in southwest Moscow.

Vladimir Seldin was an avid football fan and supporter of the CSKA Moscow club . He was a strict anti-alcoholic and non-smoker.
