Wolf-Dieter Lukas (born February 1, 1957 in Berlin - Charlottenburg ) is a German physicist and political official. Since September 2019 he has been a permanent state secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education and Research .

biography

Lukas studied physics at the Free University of Berlin from 1976 to 1981 . After completing his studies, he worked for four years, initially as a doctoral student and later as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart. In 1984 he received his doctorate in physics from the Technical University of Darmstadt . After his scientific work he moved to the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in 1988 .

There he worked on behalf of the then Federal Research Minister Jürgen Rüttgers (CDU) in the BMBF project group, which developed the basis for the first legal regulation for Internet services in Germany (see IuKDG ). Edelgard Bulmahn made him head of the key technologies department in the BMBF on February 1, 2005. There he established the new research funding field civil security research and shaped the orientation of research funding, particularly in the areas of information and communication technology and electromobility . Together with Henning Kagermann and Wolfgang Wahlster , he designed the future project “ Industry 4.0 ” and published it for the first time on April 1, 2011 in VDI-Nachrichten . Lukas was a member of the supervisory board of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and a member of the boards of trustees of the Max Planck Institute for Computer Science in Saarbrücken and the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Physics in Stuttgart. Wolf-Dieter Lukas has been State Secretary at the BMBF since September 2019.

He is honorary professor at the Technical University of Berlin, where he deals with "IT innovation engineering", ie the analysis and planning of technical innovations in the field of information and communication technology (IT). His 2010 appointment attracted public criticism.
