Wolf 1130 is a star system in the constellation Swan . The system is at a distance of 54 light years and probably consists of 3 components. The brightest component is a cool sub-dwarf and also a flare star . This star orbits a massive, cool white dwarf of the ONe type, which has so far remained invisible. These two orbiting stars are finally orbited in about 3150 AU by a brown dwarf wolf 1130 C , which is divided into the spectral class T8. The system is a possible precursor to a cataclysmic binary star system as well as a potential candidate for a type Ia supernova in the distant future.
The system is probably quite old. This is concluded on the one hand due to the low metallicity , on the other hand also from the fact that the ONe white dwarf has not yet been discovered and with a surface temperature of less than 7000 K it must be relatively cool. The white dwarf appears to be at least 3.7 billion years old, and the system may even be older than 10 billion years.
