Wolfgang Bauer (journalist)
Wolfgang Bauer (* 1970 in Hamburg ) is a German journalist and war correspondent .
Life
Bauer is the son of a career officer and had to move frequently due to his father's service obligations and attended seven schools in his youth. He then signed up for four years as a contract soldier in the German Armed Forces . He subsequently applied for conscientious objection to military service and left the armed forces after 16 months. On his second educational path , he graduated from Reutlingen evening high school . He worked in various professions and then studied Islamic studies , geography and history at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen .
He has been a freelance journalist since 1994. He began his journalistic career at the Schwäbischer Tagblatt , later he worked for Stern and from 2001 to 2010 for Focus . He wrote for u. a. National Geographic , GEO , NEON , Nido and Greenpeace magazine .
At the end of 1995 he reported on the situation after the Bosnian War , later he traveled abroad to Afghanistan (2007), Libya (2011), Syria (2012), Mali (2013), Ukraine (2014), Iraq (2015) and to Nigeria (2015).
In 2011 he became an author at the time . Bauer lives in Reutlingen .

- 2018: Prix Bayeux Calvados-Normandie des Correspondants de Guerre, 2nd prize for the report "The Poison of War" about the fight of the Nuba in the mountains of Sudan for their freedom, against the soldiers of the regime and against hunger (Photos: Armin Smailovic)
