Wolfgang Birthler

Wolfgang Birthler (born January 28, 1947 in Magdeburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He was Brandenburg state ministers and 1990-2009 member of the Landtag of Brandenburg .

Life and work

Wolfgang Birthler obtained his Abitur at the EOS in Borna in 1965 and studied veterinary medicine at the Humboldt University in Berlin until 1971 . He then worked as a veterinarian in the Angermünde district until 1990 . Between 1973 and 1975 he did alternative military service as a construction soldier .

Wolfgang Birthler is of Protestant denomination and completed part-time training as a parish helper at the Burckhardthaus of the Evangelical Church from 1986 to 1990.

He was married to Marianne Birthler from 1968 to 1983 , has three daughters with her, is remarried and has two more children.

politics

He co-founded the SDP in the Angermünde district in 1989 and was also a member of the Angermünde district council from March to September 1990.

In the state elections in 1990 he won the direct mandate in the state constituency Templin I - Angermünde I and in 1994 and 1999 in the state electoral district Uckermark I , while in 2004 he only entered parliament via the SPD state list. In 2009 he was no longer a candidate. From 1990 until he took over his ministerial office in 1999, Wolfgang Birthler was chairman of the parliamentary group of the SPD.

From October 13, 1999 to October 13, 2004 he was Minister for Agriculture, Environmental Protection and Regional Planning of the State of Brandenburg, first in the Stolpe III cabinet and then in the Platzeck I cabinet .

Wolfgang Birthler was a member of the RBB Broadcasting Council from 1992 to 1999 .
