Wolfgang Eckardt , also Wolfgang Eckhardt (born December 25, 1919 in Leipzig , † March 2, 1999 in Rostock ) was a German sculptor. He lived in Rostock, where his probably greatest work, the memorial to revolutionary sailors, is located.

Life

Wolfgang Eckardt served as a seaman on a submarine during World War II . This experience made him a declared opponent of war, which found expression in many of his works.

Eckardt worked and taught as a sculptor and lecturer in Rostock and Heiligendamm . Study trips took him to Azerbaijan and Mozambique , where he worked with local artists and held exhibitions. Much of his work had the fishermen and seamen as a topic because he had close ties to the Rostock fish combine. In 1970 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.

Wolfgang Eckardt was married twice.
