Wolfgang Graßl

Wolfgang Graßl (born January 11, 1970 , † April 12, 2010 in Berchtesgaden ) was a German alpine ski racer and trainer .

Career

Graßl was active as a ski racer in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The greatest sporting success was the silver medal in the downhill at the Junior World Championships in 1988 in Madonna di Campiglio .

After finishing his active career, he worked as a trainer for the German Ski Association (DSV) from 1992 onwards . As the technical trainer of the women's team, he led his future wife Hilde Gerg to an Olympic victory in slalom at the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano in 1998 . In 2000 he resigned and most recently coordinated the support of the alpine team athletes of the DSV at the Christophorus schools in Berchtesgaden. During the competition season he acted as the downhill trainer for the women's team in alpine ski races. He also ran holiday apartments with his wife at his home in Schönau am Königssee .

On April 12, 2010, at the age of 40, he succumbed to an aorta tear .
