Wolfgang Grenke

Wolfgang Grenke (born February 3, 1951 in Baden-Baden ) is a German entrepreneur and association official. He is the founder, main shareholder and former CEO of the financial services provider Grenke AG and President of the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry .

Life

Grenke studied industrial engineering in Karlsruhe . In 1978, while still a student in Baden-Baden, he and two employees founded Grenke-Leasing KG, a leasing company for office equipment. In 1990 the first branch was founded and in 1997 the first foreign company. In 2000, Grenkeleasing AG went public in the Neuer Markt segment . In the meantime, it has expanded its business to include factoring and banking services, is listed as Grenke AG in the MDAX and has branches in over 86 countries (as of 2020). At the end of February 2018, the previous chairman, Grenke, left the board. In May 2018 he was elected Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

From 2007 to 2013 Grenke was Vice President of the Karlsruhe Chamber of Commerce and Industry , and has been its President since 2013. The Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry elected him as one of its vice-presidents in 2014 and as president in 2016.

Grenke is very active as a patron and sponsor . In 2004 he transferred 675,000 of his company shares to a non-profit foundation for the promotion of sport as well as art, architecture and monument protection. He had a listed building in Baden-Badener Lichtentaler Allee converted into the LA8 cultural center with a museum for art and technology of the 19th century , which opened in 2009. Grenke particularly promotes the sport of chess , such as the Bundesliga chess team and multiple German champions OSG Baden-Baden . He is a member of the Circle of Friends and the Board of Trustees of the Baden-Baden Festival Hall .

In 2016, the parliamentary group of the SPD Baden-Württemberg named Wolfgang Grenke as a member of the 16th Federal Assembly to elect the successor to Federal President Joachim Gauck.

Grenke is married and has three grown sons.
