Wolfgang Blau (born October 16, 1967 in Stuttgart as Wolfgang Harrer ) is a German publicist and was editor-in-chief of the online website of the Hamburg weekly newspaper Die Zeit from 2008 to 2013 , worked for the Guardian until 2015 and since then for Condé Nast International .

Life

After completing his studies, Blau worked for the BLR radio service in Munich as head of the service and news anchor. From 1999 to 2008 he worked as a freelance journalist in San Francisco and Washington, DC . He worked for, among others, heute.de, ORF , 3sat , Die Welt , Bayerischer Rundfunk and Technology Review . In addition, he developed online offers such as the online audio portal for Die Welt, the online audio edition of the time and the audio book portal Audible , which is now part of Amazon . Until 2006 he published under the name Wolfgang Harrer. In 2007 he published the book "German Dream" with the journalist Alysa Selene, which emerged from an interview project with ZDF.

From March 2008, Blau was editor-in-chief of Zeit Online. He often commented on network policy and journalistic topics. Among other things, he caused a stir with his short lecture “The seven industry myths about the state of journalism” in front of the “Committee on Culture and Media” of the Bundestag .

In April 2013, Blau moved to the British daily Guardian , where he was director of digital strategy and a member of the executive board of Guardian News & Media in London. On December 1, 2015, he moved to Condé Nast International ( Condé Nast Verlag ). There he works as Chief Digital Officer. Wolfgang Blau will become “President of Condé Nast International on August 1, and thus the international head of the media group.” He will succeed Nicholas Coleridge .
