Live and act

From 1933 to 1937 he attended elementary school in Bernsbach, after which he switched to high school in Aue . Even before the Abitur examination he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and at the end of March 1945 transferred to the Eastern Front near Löbau . There he was taken prisoner by the Soviets , but was released again after 108 days. After a brief activity as an assistant nurse at the Auer Hospital , Kaden again attended the Aue grammar school in a special class from 1946 and passed his Abitur there in 1946. This was followed by studying medicine in Leipzig. In 1952 he received the license to practice medicine, after his dissertation on "experience with penicillin," he was on 29 May 1952 a doctorate . This was followed by the compulsory assistant in the surgical clinic of the hospital in Aue, which was headed by his father Walter Kaden. After brief delegations to Dresden and Leipzig, he was approved as a specialist in surgery on June 1, 1958. In September 1958 he began further specialist training as a urologist at the Surgical Clinic of the University of Halle, where he came into contact with an artificial kidney for the first time in 1959. On January 1, 1961, Kaden was a recognized specialist in urology; From August 1, 1961, he worked as chief physician for urology at the Aue district hospital.

In 1964, an inventor collective consisting of Wolfgang Kaden, chief physician of the Urological Clinic of the Ernst Scheffler Hospital Aue, Manfred Richter , head of the research laboratory of the Surgical University Clinic Halle, and the engineer Günter Fechner succeeded in creating the GDR's first artificial kidney (“Aue I (KN I) ”), which was built in series from the beginning of 1966 at Paul Scheibner KG in Bernsbach. In the New Germany this was praised to the effect that it was much cheaper than the foreign devices and that it was also small and operational in a very short time. Findings from the continuous work with this artificial kidney led to further developments, which resulted in the artificial kidney "Aue II (KN II)" presented at the Leipzig Fair in 1967.

In December 1970 he was awarded the title of Medical Councilor. From 1972 he was President of the Society for Urology of the GDR. In 1975 he was appointed senior medical officer. In 1989 Kaden was appointed honorary professor at the Medical Academy of the Technical University of Dresden . He retired on January 31, 1992, but then worked as a volunteer doctor for the DRK blood donation service.
