Wolfgang Kraus (born August 3, 1887 in Libau , Kurland ; † January 4, 1952 in Altenburg ) was a German-Baltic journalist and writer.

Life

Wolfgang Kraus comes from Baltic fathers who had been in charge of a pastorate in Courland since around 1800. One of his ancestors was Gerhard von Kügelgen . In Ostseegouvernement grew Kurland, Kraus began at the Royal University of Greifswald philosophy , history , German and economics to study. In 1909 he became active with Curt Bräuer in the Corps Guestfalia Greifswald . As an inactive he moved to the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin. She received his doctorate in 1912 as Dr. phil.

In 1913 he was a trainee at the Berliner Zeitung Die Post , 1913/14 foreign policy editor at the Leipziger Neue Nachrichten and from 1916 again editor in Berlin. There he headed the office of the Königsberg newspapers . In 1918 he took over the management of the monthly Die deutsche Nation published by the democratic November Club . In 1924 he became editor-in-chief of the Liegnitzer Tageblatt , which he directed until the occupation of Liegnitz by the Red Army on February 8, 1945. After his escape from Silesia he lived in Altenburg and temporarily tried a new professional perspective in Hamburg. Due to illness and political restrictions, he worked as a freelance journalist and writer. Oda Schaefer is his sister. He was buried in Berlin-Steglitz in 1952.

Kraus was a proven expert on Waldemar Dyhrenfurth and his alter ego Bonifazius Kiesewetter .
