Wolfgang Meissner

Wolfgang Meissner (born December 9, 1920 in Annaberg-Buchholz in the Ore Mountains, † July 31, 1995 in Wörthsee ) was a German air force officer and lieutenant general in the Bundeswehr . He has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class.

Life

Meissner served in the Army of the Wehrmacht during World War II , most recently as a captain in the 44th Reichsgrenadier Division "Hoch- und Deutschmeister" .

After the war he studied civil engineering in Munich with a degree in engineering.

In 1958 he joined the Air Force of the German Armed Forces and on October 1, 1972, he was the last commander in command of the Air Force University of Applied Sciences , which then became part of the University of the German Armed Forces in Munich . As early as October 1, 1974, he was employed as deputy commander and chief of staff at the Air Force Support Group South , where he was major-general in command from October 1, 1976 to September 30, 1978 , before becoming commander on October 1 1978 in his last military service as commanding general of the Air Force Support Command. In this position he was promoted to lieutenant general. Retirement took place on March 31, 1981.
