Wolfgang Petrovsky (born June 4, 1947 in Hainsberg ) is a German painter and graphic artist . He uses and mixes various techniques such as collaging , overlaying and painting over on the painting surface . His works are u. a. Landscape pictures and history pictures . He works in his Saxon hometown and in Bitterfeld (Saxony-Anhalt).

Life

Petrovsky was born in 1947 in Hainsberg, Saxony (today in Freital ) and completed an artistic course from 1966 to 1970 at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , which he graduated with a diploma.

Petrovsky has been working as a freelance artist in his native city since 1979 . In 1979 he went on a study trip to Central Asia ( Soviet Union ). In the same year he started his Bitterfeld project . From 1980 he implemented political issues with a series of postcards called “Signals” against missile stationing in East and West . Since 1982 he has been on friendly terms with the painter and graphic artist Frank Voigt and temporarily collaborates in the field of postcards, graphics and panel paintings. In 1982 he started the project “aktion = hope”, in 1983 the book campaign “FREEZE”. In the same year, work on Victor Klemperer's LTI (postcards, graphics, collages) began. In 1986 he worked on the postcard project " made in germany and elsewhere / for Victor Klemperer". In 1987 he again processed the political events in the postcard series on perestroika " DA ", from 1988 the "DA" episode as well as the "Hommage á Schwitters " and "From DADA to DA". Shortly before the fall of the Wall in 1989, the mail art campaign “Remembrance September 1, 1939 ” was launched.

In 1989, Petrovsky was a co-founder of the Bitterfeld - Wolfen Art Association and co-initiator of the appeal “Artists for Bitterfeld”. In 1990 he used it for a work stay in Japan .

From 1990 to 1993 he received teaching positions at the universities of fine arts in Dresden and Hamburg as well as at the architecture faculty of the Technical University of Dresden . In 1990/91 he was involved in the "Flag" project in the Villa Streccius of the Kunstverein Landau , and in 1994 in the "Show flag" project of Edition Staeck Heidelberg. In 1996 he worked on collages about Kurt Heilbut . In 2000 he devoted himself to the project "BILD-TEXT-SOUND COMPOSITIONS" during a study visit to Schloss Wiepersdorf with the composer Hartmut Dorschner . In 2000, Wolfgang Petrovsky was Artist in Residence at the University of Erfurt .
