Wolfgang (Yogi) Scheid (born August 23, 1942 in Hattingen ; † July 31, 2009 there ) was a German football goalkeeper . From 1969 to 1973, the goalkeeper for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen played 105 games in the Bundesliga .

Career

In 1963, the goalie moved from TuS Hattingen to Westfalia Herne in the Football Regionalliga West . He took over from national goalkeeper Hans Tilkowski in the blue and white stadium at Strünkede Castle . In the first year of the second-rate Regionalliga West, 1963/64 , the former amateur completed 30 league games under coach Hans Hipp . At the side of the teammates Jürgen Bandura , Hans Cieslarczyk , Gerhard Clement , Kurt Gehlisch , Jürgen Koch , Alfred Pyka , Hans Sondermann and Horst Wandolek , the goalkeeper reached sixth place with the Westfalia. There were three more rounds with Herne before he left Herne in the summer of 1967 after a total of 127 regional league appearances and joined league rivals Rot-Weiß Oberhausen for the 1967/68 season. There he inherited the legendary goalkeeper Helmut "Jimmy" Traska .

In the first season with the "clover leaves", 1967/68 , the third place was taken one point behind champions Bayer Leverkusen as well as the runner-up Rot-Weiss Essen. In the second year at Oberhausen, Scheid celebrated the championship in the west at the side of fellow players Friedhelm Dick , Lothar Kobluhn , Dieter Hentschel , Franz Krauthausen , Hugo Dausmann and Dieter Brozulat in front of RWE and VfL Bochum and thus moved into the BL promotion round. There, the protégés of trainer Alfred Preißler prevailed against the Freiburg FC, SV Alsenborn, Hertha Zehlendorf and VfB Lübeck and achieved promotion to the Bundesliga. Scheid had played another 67 competitive games for Oberhausen in the Regionalliga from 1967 to 1969.

The debut in the Bundesliga came with a 3-1 home win on August 16, 1969 against Eintracht Frankfurt. After another 3-1 home win on September 13th - the fifth matchday - Scheid and colleagues led the Bundesliga table 1969/70 with 9-1 points. In the final table of the Bundesliga he reached 14th place with his club Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in 1970, 16th place in 1971 and 15th place in 1972. The career of the fast-reacting and sure-footed keeper was accompanied by bad luck with injuries and consequent breaks in play.

End of career

A collision with an opposing player on February 17, 1973 - Matchday 22; Home game under coach Heinz Murach against Hertha BSC - caused a serious injury in the right knee; Due to this injury, Scheid ended his career prematurely at the age of 30.

After the end of his active career, Scheid acquired the trainer A and B license. He trained various clubs near his home, such as TSG Sprockhövel or PSV Ennepe.
