Jürgen Koch (born May 31, 1942 - † July 8, 2019 ) was a German football player .

career

In 1960, the talented left winger completed all six international matches played in the youth national team of the DFB. At the side of Gerhard Elfert , he also formed the left wing at the UEFA youth tournament in April. He played his last international youth game on June 18, 1960 in Vejle in a 1-0 win against Denmark alongside Wolfgang Overath, who played on the half-left . From the 1960/61 season the offensive player, who came from SuS 13 Recklinghausen, played at Westfalia Herne in what was then the first-class football league West . In his first season ( 1960/61 ) he made 27 league appearances alongside the prominent players Hans Tilkowski , Alfred Pyka , Helmut Benthaus , Otto Luttrop and Gerhard Clement and was the top scorer in Westfalia with 13 goals. The young hopefuls made his debut in the Oberliga West in the first home game, on August 21, 1960, in a 3-2 win against Borussia Dortmund. In the 43rd minute of the game he put the team of coach Fritz Langner 2-1 in the lead with a goal . With Westfalia, Koch even won the autumn championship of the 1960/61 season with a 2-0 win at Preußen Münster , and at the end of the season they finished fifth. He completed 75 games for the team from the Stadion am Schloss Strünkede until 1963 in the league, scoring 22 goals.

From 1963 to 1966 the attacker played with Westfalia Herne in the West Regional Football League . When the West German league champions from 1959, who had not received admission to the newly founded Bundesliga, Jürgen Koch was the club's top scorer in the attack row alongside Hans Cieslarczyk , Gerhard Clement and Jürgen Bandura in the 1963/64 season with eleven goals this season . With the Westfalia, the former DFB youth selection player finished sixth in 1964, far behind the champions Alemannia Aachen and the runner-up Wuppertaler SV. After two more years in Herne and mediocre placements, Koch moved to Fortuna Düsseldorf in 1966 after a total of 80 regional league appearances with 31 goals in the Bundesliga . He made his debut in the German upper house of football on August 20, 1966 in Fortuna's 2-1 away win at Borussia Dortmund . On the day the Bundesliga season started in 1966/67, coach Kuno Klötzer trusted the formation with Jürgen Koch, Reinhold Straus , Peter Meyer , Jürgen Schult and Waldemar Gerhardt when the Bundesliga climber attacked . The ex-Herner contributed both goals to the 2-0 away win on September 10, 1966 at Hannover 96. Overall, Jürgen Koch came to 16 games in his first season, in which he scored two goals.

After only one year in the first Bundesliga , which ended with the relegation of Düsseldorf to the regional league, Koch changed clubs in 1967 and joined Sportfreunde Hamborn 07 . In the Hamborner "Löwen" from 1967 to 1969, in addition to the players Werner Scholz , Hans-Werner Hartl , Heinz Versteeg and Dieter Herzog, another 38 missions with 13 goals in the Regionalliga West for the attacker were added. Then he went back to the amateur camp and joined the state division Olympia Bocholt as a player- coach , with whom he rose to the highest amateur class, the Association League Niederrhein , in 1969/70 . After relegation two years later, Koch managed with the club in 1973 to immediately return to the third-class association league. In 1975 Jürgen Koch moved to the regional division VfB Rheingold Emmerich , where he worked as a player-coach until 1978.
