Wolfgang Schmickler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wolfgang Schmickler (born September 11, 1946 in Bonn ) is a German physicist and university professor . Among other things, he has taught and researched at the University of Ulm , especially in the field of theoretical physical chemistry, especially theoretical electrochemistry .

Life

Schmickler studied physics, mathematics and chemistry from 1965 to 1973, received his diploma in physics at the University of Bonn and then obtained his doctorate in 1973, also in Bonn in Wolf Vielstich's group, on quantum mechanical calculations for electrochemical charge transfer. In 1978 or 1984 Schmickler completed his habilitation at the University of Bonn with a thesis on electrochemistry. In 1979 he was visiting scholar at the AN Frumkin Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences . From 1980 to 1985 he mainly worked at the University of Düsseldorf , interrupted by stays at the Center national de la recherche scientifique CNRS in Meudon , and at the IBM Research Laboratory in San José . In 1985 he became a professor at the University of Bonn and in 1990 at Utah State University in Logan . In 1992 he received a professorship for electrochemistry in the Theoretical Chemistry Department at Ulm University , where he remained until his retirement in 2011 and then as a senior professor / professor emeritus.
