Wolfgang Seyfarth (diplomat)

Wolfgang Seyfarth (born January 10, 1937 ) is a former German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador in several African and Southeast Asian countries.

Life

Seyfarth graduated from high school with a high school diploma . He studied from 1955 to 1959 with a degree in state science at the German Academy for Political Science and Law and in 1959 joined the diplomatic service of the GDR.

Seyfarth was initially an extraordinary attaché in the First Non-European Department ( Far East ) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA) and at the GDR embassy in Beijing . From 1961 to 1963 he worked in the fourth non-European department ( Africa ) of the MfAA. 1963/1964 he worked as an assistant to the trade council at the economic and trade mission in the Ghanaian capital Accra . From 1966 to 1969 he was the personal assistant to one of the deputy foreign ministers. From 1969 to 1971 he worked as Second Secretary at the Consulate General of the GDR in Egypt , then from 1971 to 1973 as Consul at the Consulate General in Tanzania . From 1974 to 1976 he completed postgraduate studies at the Diplomatic Academy in Moscow . From 1976 to 1980 he was ambassador of the GDR in Lagos and from 1977 to 1980 second accredited in Benin and Equatorial Guinea . From 1980 to 1986 he headed the secretariat of the Commission for Developing Countries at the State Planning Commission . From 1986 to 1990 he was the GDR's ambassador in Kuala Lumpur and second accredited in Thailand and Burma .

Seyfarth was a member of the SED .
