Wolfgang Uhlmann (historian)

Wolfgang Uhlmann (born May 24, 1938 in Dresden ) is a German economic historian who primarily deals with the history of the city of Chemnitz .

Act

Uhlmann is the son of a housewife and a car mechanic. From 1944 to 1952 he attended elementary school in Dresden, after which he learned the trade of a lathe operator . After studying German and history as a teacher between 1962 and 1967, Uhlmann worked until 1983 at the polytechnic high school " Johannes R. Becher " in Karl-Marx-Stadt as a teacher of history and civics . He then worked until 1991 at the Technical University and Technical University Karl-Marx-Stadt in the regional history work group. At the Pedagogical University Dresden doctorate he in 1988 on the subject of the constitution of the Chemnitz bourgeoisie during the time of the bourgeois revolution from 1800 to 1871 to the Dr. phil. From 1991 to 2003 he played a key role in the development of the Saxon Industrial Museum in Chemnitz . From 1993 to 1995 Uhlmann was acting head of the museum's development team, and he also took over the management of the regional and company history working group.

Uhlmann's research areas are primarily the industrial and economic history of the western Saxon city of Chemnitz. He published several books and more than 400 articles a. a. in specialist journals, periodicals, conference proceedings and the Saxon biography . He is chairman of the Chemnitz history association and a member of the editorial board of the Erzgebirgische Heimatblätter .

Honors

On April 18, 2019, he was honored to be able to enter himself in the Golden Book of the city of Chemnitz.
