Wolfgang Weber (economist)

Wolfgang Weber (born February 17, 1939 in Mährisch Schönberg ; † December 1, 2019 in Paderborn ) was a German business economist. From 1995 to 2003 he was rector of the University of Paderborn .

Life

Wolfgang Weber studied economics at the University of Mannheim with a degree in business administration in 1968. He then became a research assistant at the University of Mannheim. After receiving his doctorate in 1971 as Dr. rer. pole. from 1973 to 1976 he was an academic advisor at the University of Mannheim. In 1980 he completed his habilitation in business administration at the University of Mannheim.

In 1976, Wolfgang Weber accepted the position of professor for business administration, especially organization and human resources, at the newly founded University of Paderborn . In 1982 he moved to a chair for human resource management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and returned to Paderborn in 1985. There he taught business administration with a focus on human resources management until his retirement in 2005.

From 1978 to 1979 and 1995 he was Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Paderborn and from 1979 to 1981 Vice Dean. He was Vice Rector for Planning and Finance at the University of Paderborn from 1987 to 1991. He was a member of the founding committee of the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg from 1991 to 1993. In 1995 he was elected rector of the University of Paderborn. After re-election, he led the university until 2003. Weber was the founding dean of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg from 2005 to 2003.

From 1997 to 1999 he was chairman of the state rectors' conference in North Rhine-Westphalia . From 2002 to 2004 he was Vice President of the German Rectors' Conference (HRK). From 2003 to 2004 Weber was President of the Association of University Lecturers for Business Administration. V. (VHB) and from 2005 to 2006 President of the Federation of Scholarly Associations of Management (IFSAM).

From 1977 to 1994 he was on the air for the Telekolleg with the courses for "Business Administration" and "Business Accounting". In 1987 he was one of the founding editors of the Zeitschrift für Personalforschung .
