Wolfgang Weng (born December 21, 1942 in Stuttgart ) is a politician ( FDP ) and a former member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg and the German Bundestag . From 1987 to 1998 he was deputy chairman and from 1985 to 1998 budget spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group.

education and profession

Weng grew up in Adelsheim ( Neckar-Odenwald district ). He attended high school in Mosbach and graduated from high school there in 1961. He studied pharmacy in Kiel and Tübingen and was awarded a Dr. rer. nat. PhD. He was a self-employed pharmacist in Gerlingen and Stuttgart and chief pharmacist in the reserve in the Bundeswehr .

politics

From 1975 to 1983 Weng was a member of the municipal council of the city of Gerlingen near Stuttgart, and since 1980 chairman of the FDP parliamentary group. After an interlude as a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg from 1980 to 1983, he moved into the German Bundestag in 1983 , to which he was a member until 1998. From 1987 to 1998 he was deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group, from 1985 to 1998 its budget spokesman. From 1990 to 1994 he was chairman of the German-Argentine parliamentary group. From 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the district council in the Ludwigsburg district . From 2004 to 2014 he was a member of the regional assembly of the Stuttgart Region Association .

From 1979 to 1991 Weng was chairman of the FDP district association in Ludwigsburg, and since 1999 he has been honorary chairman. From 2001 to 2007 he was chairman of the FDP regional association for the Stuttgart region, and has been its honorary chairman since then. From 1981 to 1999 and again from 2002 to 2008 Weng was a member of the state board of the Baden-Württemberg FDP, from 1990 to 1999 as state treasurer. From 1990 to 1998 Weng was a member of the Presidium and Board of Directors of the Federal Association of the Free Democratic Party of Germany as a representative of the Bundestag faction, from 1991 to 1998 he was federal chairman, from 2010 to 2013 he was state chairman of LiMiD e. V. (Association of Liberal Men in Germany). From 2012 to 2014 Weng was Vice President of the Association of Former Members of the German Bundestag and the European Parliament. V.

Private

Weng was born with the pharmacist Claudia. Bürk is married and has two sons.

Weng has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit : Am Bande 1987 and 1st class 1991, awarded by Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker , Grand Cross of Merit 1998, awarded by Federal President Roman Herzog . In 2008 he was honored with the Golden Medal of Merit from his hometown of Gerlingen , and in 2009 Prime Minister Günther Oettinger awarded him the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg . Weng is a member of the Corps Borussia Tübingen .
