Wolfgang Winkler (born June 12, 1945 in Graz ) is an Austrian musicologist , musician, editor , presenter and cultural manager.

Wolfgang Winkler studied horn from 1960 , initially privately, then at the Graz Music Academy (University of Music and Performing Arts). He attended the Lichtenfelsgymnasium Graz, where he passed the Matura in 1963. From 1963 he studied medicine at the University of Graz , then from 1972 to 1978 musicology . From 1973 he worked as a freelancer in ORF's Styrian studio . In 1974 he founded the Styrian branch of the International Society for New Music (IGNM) together with Gösta Neuwirth .

In 1978 he went to Linz to the Bruckner Conservatory , where he headed the musicology department and the library. From 1979 he was a speaker for light music in the ORF regional studio Upper Austria, since 1984 head of the music department there.

Winkler worked as an editor and presenter for TV and radio. At the ORF regional studio in Linz, he co-invented the popular radio program Pasticcio and headed the nationally broadcast program From Melodie zu Melodie .

From 1998 to February 2013, Winkler was director of the Linz event company (LIVA) and artistic director of the Brucknerhaus in Linz. As a cultural manager he was responsible for the Linz Klangwolke , was one of the founders of Ars Electronica and worked for ORF as a unit manager at the Salzburg Festival .

Winkler had lectureships at the Bruckner Conservatory Linz, at the Musicological Institute of the University of Graz (music and media), at the Anton Bruckner Private University , at the University of Linz , the Danube University Krems , and at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences .

Until 2019 Winkler was the owner of the Upper Austrian Music Publishing House Linz, u. a. with works by Alfred Peschek . Since 2020 he has been the board member and artistic director of the Aichergut cultural association in Seewalchen am Attersee .

His hobbies include sailing and cooking . Wolfgang Winkler is married and has one daughter.
