Wolfhard von Augsburg , lat. Gualfardus (* around 1070 in Augsburg , † April 30, 1127 in Curte-Regia near Verona ) is one of the saints in the Catholic Church.

Life

Wolfhard acquired the skills of a saddler at a young age and then went on a journey as a journeyman . In 1096 or 1097, after crossing the Alps, he reached the city of Verona. Here he only pursued his learned profession for a short time. It is not known who or what induced him to distribute his belongings to poor people. The population then valued him as a benefactor. After this step he retired as a hermit to a forest on the Adige , where he spent twenty years of his life. Around the year 1117 Wolfhard was locked in a monastic cell as a recluse in the Camaldolese monastery of San Salvatore in Curte-Regia . He died on April 30, 1127 and was buried in the monastery.

Relics

The bones of the saint were later transferred from the monastery to the church of San Fermo Maggiore in Verona. Wolfhard's relics have been in Augsburg since October 27, 1602. They are kept in the Church of St. Sebastian .

Remembrance day

The Catholic Church commemorates this saint on October 27th. He is also the patron saint of saddlers.

To St. Wolfhard von Augsburg, the St. Wulphardi Church in Freiburg / Elbe is consecrated.
