Wolfram Sperling

Wolfram Sperling (born December 4,  1952 in Leipzig ) is a German sports scientist , university professor , sports swimmer and sports swimming official.

From 1963, Sperling attended a children's and youth sports school , as a swimmer he took eighth place at the 1972 Summer Olympics over the 400-meter individualized course. In 1974 and 1976 he was champion of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) in the 100-meter chest, in 1973 he took silver over the same distance. He won the GDR championship over 200 meters in 1976, and won gold in the national championship in 1972 in the national championship, bronze in 1973 and silver in 1974. In 1972 and 1973, Sperling was GDR champion over the 400-meter medley relay, and in 1974 he won the silver medal over the same distance. He won the GDR championship title in 1974 and 1976 with the SC DHfK Leipzig relay (4x100-meter medley). In 1976 he had to end his career after an accident.

Sperling studied sports science from 1973 to 1978  at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig , the topic of his diploma thesis, which was accepted in 1978, was "Characteristics of the conditional structure and selected results of the educational process of the AK 9 of the BTZ Swimming Weimar within the II. Phase of the educational Experiment with the training booklet 'Sport free, young swimmer!' ”He stayed at the DHfK and worked as a research assistant in the field of sport psychology / sport education until 1990. In 1982 he completed his dissertation A  (subject: “Theoretical and empirical study on the teaching and acquisition of communist ideals in the competitive sporting activity of sport swimmers in advanced training”) and in 1990 also at the DHfK his dissertation B on the subject of “On the educational promotion of the intellectual activity of young swimmers in acquiring and perfecting athletic technique in advanced training ”.

In 1994 and 1994, Sperling was  a substitute professor for sports education at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . From 1993 to 1998 he held  lectureships at the sports science faculty of the University of Leipzig in the fields of sports history, sports philosophy and sports education and also worked as a sports therapist in a rehabilitation center from 1995 to 1997. In 1997, Sperling became a private lecturer in sports education at the University of Leipzig and from 1998 worked at the same university as a research assistant at the Institute for Sports Psychology and Sports Education. In 2007 he took over the management of the swimming area at the Institute for Movement and Exercise Science of Sports II at the University of Leipzig. In this position, he is responsible for training students in the fields of swimming, water polo, water jumping and synchronized swimming, among other things.

The focus of his research work is on performance parameters and development processes in young swimmers, as well as the skills of young swimmers. He also dealt with disabled sports, the concept of sports-oriented schools, the “position and function of sport, play and movement in shaping the life of children, adolescents and adults” and promoting talent in 2013, together with Katrin Barth, he brought the textbook “I train Swim out.

In 2002, Sperling was elected chairman of the Saxon Swimming Association, and he is also a member of the main committee of the German Swimming Association .
