The Wood River is a 21 miles long right tributary of the Nushagak River in Alaska .
It rises from the southeastern end of Lake Aleknagik and flows northeast of Dillingham into the Nushagak River, with which it forms the Nushagak Bay , a bay of Bristol Bay . In June and July, during the snowmelt, the highest monthly outflows occur.
The name of the native inhabitants of Alaska for the river was first documented in 1826 by Lieutenant Sarichew of the Imperial Russian Navy as "Alyagnagik". In 1852 Mikhail Tebenkow probably referred to the same name as "Aleknagek".
The Wood River, along with Tikchik Lake, is eponymous for Wood-Tikchik State Park .
