The World Leagues Forum ( German  World League-Forum ), short WLF is a world association of professional soccer leagues, which was founded in Zurich on February 25 2016th

history

With the aim of bundling the interests of the professional leagues and contributing to the development and strengthening of professional football in the respective countries through the mutual exchange of experiences and strategies, leading representatives from 22 national associations and the EPFL met in London for the first time in April 2015 . The group initially operated under the name Global Leagues Forum . In December 2015, another meeting took place in Paris to substantiate the establishment of a separate association, with the further aim of gaining a say in the world football association FIFA . A steering group consisting of representatives from 10 professional leagues met on February 25, 2016, one day before the FIFA presidential election, for the founding meeting in Zurich. Founding members were 24 professional football leagues from four continents and five continental associations: Europe ( UEFA ), Asia ( AFC ), Africa ( CAF ) and America ( CONCACAF , CONMEBOL ). Together they represent a total of 1,100 clubs and 20,000 players.

On November 7, 2019, a cooperation agreement was signed between the World Leagues Forum and FIFA to jointly promote professional football, which provides for the advancement of standards, the improvement of structures as well as training and support measures, especially for emerging football countries. The agreement was signed in person by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the President of the World Leagues Forum Christian Seifert in Zurich.

With the approval of the members, a three-person management team initially took over the chairmanship of the association. This consists of Enrique Bonilla ( Liga MX , Mexico), Christian Seifert ( German Football League , Germany) and Frédéric Thiriez ( Ligue de Football Professionnel , France), who initially also took over the management.
