World of Warplanes is a historic arcade - flight simulator - MMOG for the PC. The game was announced on June 7, 2011 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles by the Belarusian developer Wargaming.net . After a one-year beta phase, it was released in autumn 2013.

Game description

Just like its role model World of Tanks, the game uses BigWorld's software , but it is adapted for the requirements of a flight simulation.

True to the model, the players in World of Warplanes compete against each other in groups of 15 players in historic fighter planes from the 1930s to 1950s. Players start flying and a fight ends with the destruction of all enemy aircraft or the achievement of air supremacy. During the beta tests, 60 aircraft of German , American , Soviet and Japanese origin were available.

From version 1.8 you can purchase and fly more than 170 combat aircraft from six nations (Germany, USA, Great Britain, USSR, Japan and China). A distinction is made between fighters, multi-purpose fighters, heavy fighters and attack aircraft. The hunters are more powerful in curve combat, whereas multipurpose hunters can also severely damage or destroy ground targets. The heavy fighters do more damage but are sluggish and difficult to maneuver. Attack aircraft attack ground targets with bombs.

development

In June 2011, the Wargaming.net studio announced that it would also develop a flight simulator based on the game principle of its successful World of Tanks tank simulation. In August 2011, work on an alpha version was confirmed, a first preview was shown at Gamescom and the official forum was opened. The global beta test phase started on February 27, 2012. At this point in time, Wargaming.net had already received more than 100,000 test applications. During the alpha and beta tests, a small number of test players who had previously had to agree to a confidentiality agreement were granted access to the game servers. On July 4th, 2013 the open beta phase of World of Warplanes started. The release date was finally announced for November 13, 2013. With World of Warships , another MMOG was published by Wargaming.net in 2015 that deals with warships from the time of the world wars.
