action

A man wakes up from unconsciousness. He is severely injured and trapped in a wrecked car in the middle of the forest. As he carried the accident next to a broken right tibia an amnesia has suffered, he does not know who he is and how he got into this situation. In the back seat he discovers the body of a man whom he identifies as George Weaver through his ID. While he is trying in vain to get out of the car, a woman comes to him and provides him with water and food. But suddenly the woman has disappeared again and it becomes clear that the man only imagined her. After a few days, he manages to climb outside. He found a pistol in the car and now discovers a bag full of money in the trunk. A credit card with the name Raymond Plazzy and the radio news bring him the certainty: He belongs to a gang of bank robbers.

With his leg splinted, he drags himself on all fours through the forest up the mountainside. He not only has more hallucinations from the unknown woman, but also sees a stranger who is tampering with the money in the trunk of the car. Later he finds a cell phone that has no reception in the forest and a can of pills. He also meets a dog that accompanies him from now on. To move faster, he drifts a little way down the river. When he meets the woman again, he chokes and shoots her. After wandering through the forest for a few days and about to give up, he finally reaches a road. There he came across another corpse and determined from the driver's license with passport photo that it was Raymond Plazzy.

Now his memories are gradually coming back. He was not one of the bank robbers, but was taken hostage by them and kidnapped in the car, in front of the eyes of his partner with whom he was traveling (and whom he last saw in the hallucinations). With the now working cell phone, he calls a ranger who picks him up on the street. He can now remember how he grabbed the driver of the getaway car as a hostage in the steering wheel there a few days ago, whereupon it got off the road and fell down the slope into the forest.

background

The film was made on Vancouver Island in the Canadian province of British Columbia . According to the director and producer, the shooting lasted eighteen days. Leading actor Adrian Brody prepared for his role by spending a night alone in the woods in the middle of winter. He actually ate insects and did all of the stunts himself.

reception

The critics praise Adrien Brody as a suitable actor for this leading role, but criticize the director's performance and some lengths in the film. The reviewer from cinema.de says, “Adrian Brody [deliver] an intense one-man show. But director Greenspan only maintains the tension at the beginning, the way to the solution of the riddle becomes a dry spell for the viewer as well. ”Stefan Geisler at filmstarts.de comes to a similar conclusion. In his opinion, "Greenspan can only maintain the tension of his survival thriller at the beginning, which is why there are hardly any challenges worth mentioning for the draft horse Brody, especially in the second half of the film." In the end, Wrecked not only because of its credibility, but also because of its story. Greenspan actually doesn't tell us anything and in the end he leaves the viewer completely unsatisfied and not a bit smarter. Alone in the wilderness of your own thoughts. "
